I decided to put a gizmo I saw on the internet a few months back to work, and tried my … hand … at ripening avocados in the Avocado Sock.
I used my friend Amber, who recently moved back to the U.S. from an overseas military assignment, as a guinea pig, and Amber shared her experiences buying avocados in Europe. Spoiler alert: They were often spoiled.
We also tested one of the greatest mysteries about avocados out there:
Why do some have giant pits, and some have tiny little nothing pits, and how can you tell without cutting?
A grower told me a theory, and we put it into practice – with science!
