MOSS LANDING, CA–It was unseasonably warm and sunny the day I toured this Andrew & Williamson BB #:125044 strawberry ranch. If I’d been at home in Texas, I would have been dying of heat exhaustion but here on the California coast, within view of the Monterey Bay, there’s still a chill in the air.
And that’s what makes this place unique.
For six months out of the year, basically from April to November, it’s springtime in California strawberry fields. Cool nights, a little bit of fog, and warm days trick the plants into producing strawberries far longer than the typical life cycle of the plant.
This farm also is an EFI-certified operation, meaning it’s part of the Equitable Food Initiative. I touched on it briefly in the video, but fortune is smiling on me because Costco BB #:150902, one of the largest retailers to supply EFI-certified product, just featured the organization in the latest Costco Connection magazine.
