Let’s go to The Mango Store

The Mango Store New Yorkers
On March 7, the National Mango Board unveiled The Mango Store, which offered New Yorkers a one-day opportunity to discover the culture, flavor, nutrition and versatility of mangos.

I’m kind of sad I didn’t get a chance to visit the “The Mango Store,” a “one-day opportunity to discover the culture, flavor, nutrition and versatility of mangos,” in New York on March 7.

The idea was so much fun – think Apple store, only without the electronics and fruit instead.

Bright white walls with colorful pictures of all types of mangos adorned the walls, an effort the Orlando-based organization said was designed to highlight mangos year-round.

“We recognized Americans love the flavor of mangos but needed some motivation to see mangoes in a new light and enjoy the fresh, whole fruit beyond the peak summer months,” said Valda Coryat, Director of Marketing, in a news release. “Our Mango Store was the perfect opportunity to brighten up a cold, winter day in Manhattan with the sunniest fruit in the produce aisle and raise awareness that mangos are always in season.”

Doesn’t this sound like fun? I was so bummed I didn’t get a chance to go…until I got a series of texts from my husband Brian at lunchtime.

See, Brian works in north Austin, TX, a few blocks from H-E-B’s Central Market, and often goes over there just to get out of the office. He scouts the current promotions so I can go take a look.

Today, Central Market IS The Mango Store (well, all tropicals, but mangos were pretty much the star). Their Taste the Tropics promotion winds throughout the store (there were even mangos in the cheese department!), but of course produce was the big feature.
