We tried it: the Elefante Green Gold Pineapple

elefante green gold pineapple

I’ve written about this item before in my coverage from the International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce and Floral Show back in October.

Los Angeles-based Melissa’s World Variety Produce puts on a media event at the show where we get to try a lot of the newest items they offer. I had a quick bite of their new Elefante Green Gold Pineapple, a sugarloaf grown in Ghana.

I knew I had to get one of these at home so the pineapple adventure I’ve been having with my sons could continue. We’ve tried Del Monte’s Honeyglow and Pinkglow, Dole’s Limited Edition Golden Selection, and a $15 Azorean pineapple I found at H-E-B’s Central Market.

So of course this pointy, spiky, green-skin variety has to join the fun.

Back in October, the fruit I sampled was good, but I wouldn’t say it was the best pineapple I’ve ever had.

This time, however, I think the fruit was more ripe because wow, did it deliver. It had a very sugary texture, even though the skin was bright green and the fruit was very pale, almost white. My brain had a little trouble computing because I usually stick to the most golden fruit I can find at the store — usually fresh-cut.

What do you think of the latest in the fancy pineapple adventure?
