In the 2022-23 campaign, Peruvian fresh onion exports reached 151,000 tons, showing an increase of 23 percent (30,000 tons more) compared to the previous campaign.

This growth follows what the industry has experienced in recent years: while between 2015 and 2018 the volume did not exceed the threshold of 100,000 tons in the year, in 2019, prior to the pandemic, shipments rose to around 125,000 tons and this year is close to 290,000.

From the beginning of the 2022-23 campaign until the end of week 15 of this year (April 9), Peru exported 249,314 tons of fresh mangoes, registering a growth of 7.3 percent compared to the 232,275 tons shipped in the same period of the previous campaign.

In the first two months of 2023, Peruvian exports by air reached 14,502 tons, reflecting a contraction of 2.1 percent compared to the volume shipped in the same period of the previous year, according to ComexPerú.

Peru saw continued growth in the 2022-23 season, but that may not be the case next season.

In 2022, Peru was the world’s leading exporter of blueberries with $1.36 billion in value, surpassing the U.S., Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, and Morocco, according to the Research Center for Global Economy and Business of the Association of Exporters (CIEN-ADEX).

From the beginning of the 2022/2023 campaign in June to March 12, Peru exported 283,000 tons of fresh blueberries, reflecting an increase of 30 percent versus in the same period the previous campaign.

From January to March 12, 2023, Peru exported 35,200 tons of avocado, reflecting an increase of 53 percent compared to the 23,000 tons shipped in the same period the previous year.

In 2022 Peru had 18,103 hectares of blueberries, which reflected an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the 16,290 hectares registered in 2021.

Last season 53.9 percent of total Peruvian blueberry exports went to the U.S., reflecting a growth of 31 percent in volume, according to Blueberries Consulting.
